20th Jul 1944. 
In evening saw a ☿ wasp go into hole in patch of Dryas in front garden - approximately in same spot where nests have been in two former years - 1940 and 1942.

23rd July 1944. 

Entirely dull, but a very fine day with no wind - just a gentle W. breeze in morning, none in afternoon & a gentle E. breeze in evening. 

Left home at 10 AM. & rode to Rye Water arriving about noon, collected till 7 P.M. & left Louisa Bridge at 7.10 & home at 8.30. 

Collected in six places and follows:-

1.  On left bank of Rye Water just above aqueduct & a few on edge of canal on aqueduct.  12.15 - 1.15 PM.
2.  Right bank of Rye Water from well to river & in next field upstream.  2 till 3.15 P.M.
3.  Bank of Royal Canal & tow path, just W. of walled-plantation 1/2 mile W. of Louise Bridge.  3.30 - 4 PM.
4.  Inside walled-plantation.  4.30 - 6 P.M.
5.  W. side of 3rd field W. of Louisa Br. & between canal & Maynooth Rd.  6 - 6.30 P.M.
6.  S. side of SW corner of 2nd field W. of Louisa Br.  6.30 - 7 P.M.
