17th Sept. 1944.

A most perfect day, but 14th & 15th very bad; 16th better. R. Liffey in high flood & signs of recent heavy rain everywhere. Went by 12.10 (noon) bus to Royal Canal beyond Louisa Bridge, Co. KD., & returned by 4.40 bus from Maynooth. All sunny & very hot sun too, but rather strong SW. breeze in plantation while I was collecting there & not nearly as many insects out as on 10th. Collected in two areas only, as follows:-

1 = Walled plantation between canal & Mr. Mitchell's.  1.40 till 3 P.M.
2 = Tow path, &c., just W. of plantation as far as Crab Apple tree. 3 till 3.40 P.M.
