5th Nov 1944. Sunday.

Wasps certainly seen on this day entering & leaving nest in front garden, 14 Clareville Rd., but gone by following Sunday (12th) & I don't think seen after midday on Monday 6th which was very fine in forenoon (all sunny) & dreadful in afternoon when a secondary "whiz-bang" arrived at 2:30 P.M. & it poured all afternoon while I stacked 3/4 ton of turf.

6th to 12th Very bad cold weather with gales & sleat shower & much rain. Snow on Kippure on 8th

12th Nov. 1944. A fine day [[plus or minus]], after more rain at night. Walked from Kimmage Rd. W. bus via Willington Ho. & Templeogue Bridge to Rathfarnham bus in afternoon. Saw a few wasps at ivy at Willington Ho. & flowers on Petasita fragrans at Templeogue Bridge.

15th Nov. 1944. A dry cold day with E. wind & more showers about, but much quite hot sun. Rode via The Greenhills to Whitehall House & thence along top of old Tallaght aerodrome to near Jobstown & home via Tallaght

15-11-44, cont.

& Templeogue. Collected blackberries near Whitehall Ho. & these remarkably good when cooked on 16th - these of the late species Rubus rusticanum I think - or near that - which still has a tremendous weight of unripe fruit. Saw many ramps at ivy in hedges at Whitehall House & on wall above aerodrome. Many "midges" & gnats dancing in the sun everywhere in spite of keen ENE breeze & much more on all the mountains above 2,000 ft.

Crocuses in front garden with their nose well above the soil!

4.12.44. The early Snowdrop outside drawing room window well up & showing the white flower-bud but as weather remained very cold & wet it hung fire & was nearly but not quite open on 12th. Daffodil noses showing by path to front gate on 10th.

10th Dec. 44. A bunch of Snowdrops seen in front of house near Templeogue Bridge end of Butterfield Lane & some apparently actually out. These get full sun: ours is shaded by hedge. on way home past Willington House
