25th Feb 1945.

After two cold days & gale at night (24th-25th), today mild with very strong blustery SW. wind - almost a gale. In afternoon took bus to Fir House & walked across the Dodder footbridge, then via Tymon Castle & the Green Hills back to Kimmage Rd. W. & bus home.

Saw Lamium galeobdolon in bud on east side of the road a little S. of Tymon Castle & Viola odorata in flower just NW of the castle.

It is now only too evident that my plants of Mediterranean Heath in back garden were severely injured by the frost in January though quite unharmed by what appeared to be a harder frost in 1940: in fact one plant - that which always flowered first & was nearly in flower when frost came - seems [[strikethrough]] quite [[/strikehthrough]] almost dead. These plants I brought as seedlings from shore of Bellacragher Bay, Mulranny, Co. Mayo, in March 1910 & have brought with me to four other gardens. They are therefore at least 36 years old & are now from two to three feet high, though several large bushes died or were broken by the wind some years ago. They frequently seed themselves here in Dublin.
