On journey to Clongower Wood in morning, heard many Chiffchaffs about Celbridge, but none elsewhere; saw Stitchwort in flower in ditch near Hazelhatch; 2♂︎♂︎ of Andrena albicans on dandelion flower in bog at Rathcoffey & a few Bumble Bees heard or seen but none identified. Left Rathcoffey NS. at 7.5 & came home via Maynooth, Lucan, Clondalkin, arriving at 9 PM exactly.

5th April 1945: A fine day, but strong cool breeze. In afternoon rode on bike to Fir House, Oxford College, Rockbrook & home via Rathfarnham. Saw Equisetum hyemale in hedge between Rockbrook & Mt. Venus, just E. & W. of gates into two recent [[?]] cottages on N. side of road.

[At 1 P.M. on returning from museum saw a Small White Butterfly in Leinster Rd., Rathmines.] Saw in flower [[?]] Stitchwort & Germander Speedwell S. of Firhouse.

8th April 1945. A perfect day - all blue sky - but with cool E. breeze. Did not go out in forenoon, but spent the time in back garden. Daisy's Laburnum in flower, also Columbine [in front garden], several more species of sedges - aquatilis, ? rigida x juncella, ? rigida seedling at rubbish heap. Raspberries now out. All the plants of Arctostaphylos, Silene aucalis, Korokia in full flower. Several Small White Butterflies seen in garden, one dead (? pecked by Sparrow).

9th April 1945. Euphorbia hiberna (old plant!) in front garden in flower: newer plant not out.
