87. Co. Tipperary - Galtee Trip 1945. 24th May 1945. The second very nice sunny day in succession after a month's very mixed weather. Left Dublin by 10 AM train & arrived at Limerick Junct. at 1.30, where met by trap from Aherlow Hotel which took luggage. We - Daisy, myself & Desmond Meikle - rode on bikes to remnant of a lake* - the big moraine about a mile N.W. of Tipperary town, now partially drained & being filled in by town refuse, dead horses, &c. Here did a little sweeping while Meikle looked for plants:- including Cladium mariscus, Carex rostrata, C. hirta, C. paniculata, C. teretiuscula, C. disticha, C. Goodenowii (? v. juncella) & C. paludosa, Ranunculus sceleratus & Veronica anagallis-aquatica (pink - flowers!). *Carrownreddy Lough on map in Nat. Museum, Dublin [8 insects mounted & these labelled on 4.2.1948!] Insects swept along E. side of marsh Dolerus palustris ♂︎ Pteronidea ♂︎ Two black specimens = Nomada hillana ♀︎ 88. 24.5.1945, cont. Marsh near Tipperary, ST., cont. Gen. et sp.? Phaeogenid: ♀︎ ant. 21 = same as ♀︎ taken at St. Anne's, Dublin on (2) 26.4.44 & ♂︎ at Rye Water on (2) 30.4.44! AWS. 4.2.48! Cryptinids 7: none mtd. Zootrephus suspiciosus? ♀︎: not mtd. Campoplegid ♂︎: not mtd. Bracon fulvipes ♀︎. B. cf. epitriptus? 2♂︎♂︎, 1♀︎: neither mtd. Apanteles tetricus ♂︎. Centistes foveolatus m. = ? collaris Thoms. ♀︎, ant. 23. Euphorus pallipes? pale antennae ♂︎. } neither mtd. E. orchesiae 1 } neither mtd. Opius pendulus 2♂︎♂︎, not mtd. After tea Meikle & I went for a strong S. along road from hotel & back through Ballinacourty estate. Along road saw a new station for Carex Pairaei & much C. divulsa, where everything closely grazed by horse in previous year!
