cliffs; which definitely contradicts Webb's statement in I.N.J. 1943, that it only grows on cliffs at L. Muskry. Collected some of the hairy-stemmed Rhinanthus which grows on all these cliffs as Desmond Meikle thinks it may prove of interest. Saw the two fine clumps of Rubus saxatile at top West end of main cliffs, just E. of the stream that come down gully & into lake (at S.W. corner; as well as all the ordinary plants seen here before, but only one group of plants sp. Hieracium seen (= the H. anglicum of Hart's report, I presume!) & one bit brought home to grow for comparison with those from L. Curra & L. Muskry.

Finally reached top cliffs & the place where Daisy refound the Saussurea on 28th May, found it nearly eaten in the ground & slugs (five large Arion ater being actually engaged in finishing it off when we arrived!); these slugs I threw down the cliff!.

Even the rice flower spike seen on 27th May eaten down & a bare stump.

On way home crossed the cliff above L. Curra on which grows Arabis petraea & was delighted to find that one of the smaller clumps was going to flower, the buds showing the white petals through the sepals. The number of small plants suggests that it flowers & seeds regularly, but naturally most of the seeds fall down & get swamped in the general vegetation.

Took Cychrus rostratus at base of big gully from upper cliffs S. of L. Diheen to main ridge & a couple of other beetles on way up E. slope of Galtymore: the altitude of former is about 2600 ft. & of the latter ca. 2900 ft.

[2 beetles & 1 ick. mounted & these labelled on 13.2.1948!]

Cychrus rostratus as above.
Bhyrrus pilula on slope of Galtymore at ca. 2900 ft.
Ich. Stenomacrus sp.? ♀︎, ant. 24: on summit of Galtymore, at 3000 ft., cf ♀︎ taken at Kilkea Park, KD., on 5.9.1937 (1)!
