11th July 1945.

A fine day with SE-E wind & much hot sun, but a jam inland & southward from midday & nearly rainy in evening at Dublin. Only a slight drizzle for a few minutes at 2 P.M. where we were, but more to south over Wicklow & inland over the hills.

Took 12 noon bus to Delgany, Co. WI., & walked up road along E. side of old Bellevue demesne - now wrecked & with rows of labourers cottages, &c., on both sides of this road in places. Had not been here for some years ( ) but found the Alder swamp 1/2 mile N. of Delgany where I took Oxycera fallenii in 19– & 19– not greatly changed. Did not see this Diptiron - perhaps too early in season - former specimens taken early in August! - but swept round & about alders, in former plantation belt & in swamps in field W. of alders for a couple of hours & filled two suckers, but as all insects from same area (approximately).

Came home by bus leaving Delgany at 4.45.
