Butterflies during day.
Common Blue  1♀︎ at 3 but along canal.
Green-veined White at 1.
Small Tortoiseshell.  Common, some at ivy blossom.
Red Admiral - at least 2, one at ivy : also one corpse seen on road near Lucan.
Peacock: only one definitely seen near 1.
Speckled Wood 2 or 3 at 1

Beetles: some given to E. O'Mahony.


5th October 1945. 

Barometer recovered after slight fall on 3rd-4th, which latter was mainly dull & just fine & no more.

This day brilliant, with gentle E. breeze & very hot sun after a dewy night: therefore in afternoon took net & suckers to Museum & spent an hour sweeping Merrion Square as in June & August.

1 = SE. corner of square.
2 = SW. corner.

Mostly taken along edges of south path, but area swept extended to centre of E. side & open ground around "A.R.P." shelters & as far as centre of square.
