Male willows out by Dodder below Rathfarnham bridge & probably ♀♀ also. Saw first Forsythia in flower at Terenure police barracks on way home. 7th to 10th Weather continued dry & cold, with frost at night & sun during day. 10th March 1946. Dull in morning with SW cloud drift & SE wind & jam over Dublin. SE wind won about midday & afternoon gloriously sunny, but cold wind. Snow still on higher hills —— Glendhu Mt., Seecawn, & Kippure. The cold dull weather continued up till the night of 16th - 17th + awakened to find the air outside like a greenhouse on 17th; this of course brought a drizzle + most of 17th - 18th there was half a gale from S. SW + at times SE. with a lot of drizzle, although the barometer remained quite level. By morning of 18th vegetation had made great progress in back garden + 10 daffodils were out (instead of one the day before); ♀ willow will out; + during afternoon the Fox moth caterpillar appeared after hibernation + I commenced to find the snail in another zone. 19th.
