24th March 1946.

A very fine day, all sunny in forenoon, but mainly cloudy in afternoon, of course, cool, with westerly breeze. In afternoon at 2 pm. rode on bikes to Bohernabreena, then "pushed" up to Ballinascorney Gap & so home by Brittas & Crooksling.

At the highest point on the road, just over 1,000 ft, there is a fine colony of the snail Helicella itala
on the roadside bank (limy drift!)

Collected a few mosses for Miss Thomson on roadside at 1,000 ft where the H. italia were. One Bumble Bee seen by Daisy near Tallaght on return journey. All sunny as soon as we reached home about 4:40.

A most perfect day! All sunny with scarcely a breath of wind off sea.

Went by bus & tram to Dalkey, arriving at terminus about 11:30, where met Miss Jennie Thomson who had joined us to see where I got the mosses on 28/2/46, amongst which she found a Pottia & other mosses she does not normally come across: this is of course due to fact that the boulder-clay slopes above the railway at Vico Rd., Killiney are very sun-baked & unlike most places in this country. Spent about two hours between the Vico Rd. & the sea, partly above the railway &
