[Only 2 mtd. & these labelled 22.2.1949] [No Ichs at all.] Aspilota sp. near pullata? - robust, darkish legs, dimple, &c. ♂︎ ant. 24: this, only, mounted! & 1 Procto! A. (Synaldis) parvicornis ♂︎ Dacnusa maculipes ♂︎ D. laevipectus v. tibialis miki frequent ♂︎♂︎ & ♀︎♀︎. D. longiradialis ♂︎♂︎ frequent & a few ♀︎♀︎ & possibly other species of areolaris group. Aphidius sp.? ♂︎. Monoctonus caricis ♀︎. Chalcids & 2 small Proctos : 1 mtd. = Greater Stitchwort in flower near the Greenhills. 14th-19th April '45. Weather continued fine with cool NW breeze & very hot sun on 15th-16th, but then came a change with semi-gale on morning of 17th, with some drizzle, heavy showers & sunny intervals in afternoon, fine again on 18th-19th, with cold heavy rain on night of 19th-20th & drizzle on 20th till late afternoon & colder. Many plants showed remarkable growth after the rain of 17th & Euphorbia hiberna (old plant) in front 304. 14th-19th April 1946, cont. garden scarcely above ground on 15th was in flower on 20th. Sax. rosacea, some "hirta", sternbergii & even drucei practically in flower by 19th (Good Friday) when D.A. Webb (T.C.D.) came to see my mossy Saxifrages. Orchis mascula in back garden in flower on 18th. Andromeda & all the Arctostaphylos by 19th. Silene acaulis from Snowdon opened first flower on 17th & Clare Island plant on 19th. Betula nana in full leaf, with catkins on 18th. Carex rigida (Muilrea plant), C. montana & C. sp.? by rubbish-heap (? rigida x goodenowii) all in flower by 19th. 17th April 1946. In afternoon took car out for exercise - after one heavy shower, & before the next - & drove via Dundrum through The Scalp & home via Old Connaught, Cabinteely, Stillorgan & Milltown. Saw nothing of interest except one House Martin just below The Scalp (i.e. S. of Scalp). Orthostigma 1♂︎, ant. 20; 1♀︎, ant. 20, wings of latter crumpled, said to have been bred from a bird's nest in Feb. 1946, but given to me dead in March.
