4th May 1946.

Another beautiful day, with very hot sun & strong cool easterly breeze.

Drove, alone, with D. Meikle to Osberstown, S. of Sallins Co. KD. & spent 1 1/2 hour along right bank of R. Liffey, where a bend of the river comes close beside the road, 1 mile S. of Osberstown House - Meikle studying the hybrid = willows which grows there & I sweeping icks = 1.

Meikle also found there, around a limey spring, an Equisetum like trachyodon, but perhaps only a [[?laa]], branched & semi-decumbent form of variegatum. Left home about 10.45 & left Osberstown at 1 o'clock then drove on via Robertstown to main road from Clare to Edenderry, where turned car at Brockagh near Allenwood in order to let Meikle see a bit of a real "High Bog", with Andromeda, Drosera anglica, Lycopodium Selago, Rhynchospora fusca & alba &. = 2

Swept some insects beside the R. Liffey at 1 & others in a plantation of Scots Pine, with Birch & willow scrub &c. at 2.

Sedge Warbler heard & many Swallows seen during day!
