First Swifts seen at 14 Clareville Rd. on evening of 9th May.


12th May 1946.

A most perfect day:  hot sun from sunrise to sunset, wind E. & strong but not so cold & dry as previous week;  some haze (& mist in early morning).

Left home in car at 10 AM & drove to Glen of Imaal:  arrived at Coan about 11.30 & walked up the Little Slaney for a mile & then cut up on to ridge above Camara Hill & saw Lycopodium alpinus & clavatum in usual place.  Every place very dry & vegetation in consequence very backward.  Continued up ridge & then cut round into North Prison & had lunch beside Brunker's station for Saxifraga hypnoides.  After lunch continued up the Prison to the tarn
