315. 13th - 26th May 1946. Weather continued mainly dry (rain only on a couple of days 18th & 20th) with strong cold E, SE or NE wind & often very hot sun so that there was very little growth in garden, though many plants came slowly into flower. The rain on 18th gave a fillip to some things, but the cold dry wind & sun quickly stopped growth again. On 22nd (Wed.) took car to Ballinascorney Gap (via Crooksling & Brittas) & walked up ridge from Slievenabawnoge towards Ballymorefin Hill & back: very hot sun & S. wind (SE. in Dublin), but did not collect except Dolerus aeneus ♂︎ at ca. 1300 ft. Many swifts seen along the ridge - alt 1100 to 1300 ft. & in shelter of Slievenabawnoge, on way home from Gap, saw more Swallows, House Martins & Swifts than previously this season. Prepared garden, fed snails, &c. on 25th-27th before going on holidays to Cloghane, Dingle Promontory, Co. Kerry (S), on 28th: for account of which trip see Vol. 16 of this diary. On 20.5.1946 took a Tryphonine-Mesoleine ♀︎ ant. 30 in motor-house 14 Clareville Rd., Harold's Cross = 316.
