5th July 1946.

A fine day, with strong S.W. wind & showers but only slight skiffs where we were.

Left home in car, George being on leave, at 10 AM & drove via Wicklow & Magheramore to Brittas Bay: went as far as where old road blocked by sand behind Mizen Head & there left car at 12 noon & walked S. to Buckroney dunes.

Collected in Buckroney dunes, round lagoon & by outlet of marsh & along eastern edge of marsh itself before & after lunch. Left for home at 5 P.M. & home a few minutes before 7 P.M. after a very pleasant day - the car being now just over 20 years old and me 62-63!

Did not look for Aculeates, but some swept, likewise a few sawflies. As only one sucker with me it is not possible to say which came from dunes & which from marsh, &c.
