4th August 1946. 

A very "close" warm day with rain or drizzle during the middle & heavy local showers in afternoon;  dull & threatening in morning & fine in evening;  wind strong W in morning;  practically none & conflicting afternoon & evening.  Many insects out.

Drove in afternoon (2 P.M.) to The Carragh & collected for an hour by sweeping grass &c. in NE. angle of railway & embankment of southernmost road bridge on W. side of race course;  then came home via Kilcullen & stopped to collect in alder swamp S. of road at Castlemartin, just W. of Kilcullen, for ten minutes, when heavy shower ended collecting; then home via Naas at 6 P.M.
