but these quite glabrous - some with fruit & some not.

During the day saw ☿☿ of Bombus lapponicus in several places attending flowers of Lotus corniculatus;  also saw several ♀︎ B. lucorum lower down.

Found quite a colony of Housemartins breeding in cliffs near Oxytropis, where a good dry overhang occurred, which accounts for repeatedly seeing these birds up to 2700 ft. in this area on previous days.

27th June 1947.

A very fine morning with very hot sun & few clouds, but afternoon changed & a slight drip from 5 till 7 P.M. in hills, then dull & fine;  thunder somewhere to South.

After an early breakfast got lift in car to Glen Doll Lodge at 9.15-9.30 & set out for Caenlochan at head of Glen Isla, ca. 7 miles across very rough country, via the Braemar track & Jock's Road, then across the White Water, past Lychnis alpina habitat by head of the Little Culrannoch Burn to head of Glen Canness, where had lunch at 1 P.M. by burn just E. of Canness Burn & just before it drops into the Glen.  After lunch proceeded across slopes of Caderg, over 3,000 ft. ridge to head of Caenlochan Glen, over very rough ground at first which so delayed us that it was nearly 3 P.M. when we reached head of Caenlochan;  we therefore decided it was too late to descent & explore the cliffs of the glen & so turned northwards & back to Canness Burn where had tea a little before 4 PM.
