18th May 1948. 

The 4th blazing hot day, with strong cool E. breeze. In afternoon went to Furry Glen, Phoenix Park, DU., to show a Miss Claire D'Arcy how to collect insects at request of Dr. B.M. Hobby of Hope Museum, Oxford, she being a sort of pupil of his & now doing Nat. Science at Trinity College. Did a little sweeping on my own in bed of lowest part of glen & along spring & marshy spot by boundary wall, W. of same. Here took the following insects:-

Bombus terrestris, lucorum, hortorum & agrorum seen. 
Andrina jacobi, & probably fucata seen. 
Nomada marshamella & probably bifida (auctt.) seen
None kept.

Dolerus nigratus ♀︎, & Pachyprotasis rapae ♂︎: not mtd.
Athalia cordata ♂︎♂︎: not mtd.

Cryptinids 7: 2 mounted =

Green weevil =

18th, 19th & 20th & 21st May. All three entirely sunny, very hot sun, E. wind. On 20th saw ♂︎ Crabro leucostomus in back garden & took Mesoleius [[?]] in scullery at 2 p.m. Bassus tricinctus (Auctt.) ♂︎, ant. 19, taken at Dalkey, Co. DU., on 19th at Mrs. Porter's.


22nd May:  Absolutely sunless, dull, dreary, with W-NW wind! Dry
