26.

13th June 1948.

A very fine, hot, day, after a dewy night. No wind in forenoon, but increasing easterly breeze in afternoon; mainly sunny till 4:30 P.M.

Drove to Newcastle station in The Murrough], Co. WI., arriving about 11.20 AM & leaving at 5.30 P.M.

Collected by sweeping in three areas:-

1 = Along the coast between railway & sea for 1/2 mile S. of Newcastle station.
2 = In marsh, W. of railway 1/4 mile S. of road to station
3 = Edge of reed bed & marsh 1/2 mile S. of station & W. of ry.

Spent some time in forenoon in marsh looking at the orchids O. incarnata (= latifolia!), O. traunsteineroides Pugsley & I think hybrids - with Keith Lamb & Marcus Graham, who were with us, & K.L. collected specimens of both species & hybrids (?) for me to send to Kew for Desmond Meikle & Mr. Summerhayes.

Insects taken at 1 (or seen there).
