10th July 1948.
In back garden, 14 Clareville Rd., Harold's Cross, DU., at 1.40 midday very many Hymenoptera flying in hot sun & one red one caught by hand flying round Laburnum bush proved to be a ♂︎ Homocidus elegans, very large & with curious, abnormal, black face-markings, that on left not matching that on right.  ♂︎♂︎ of H. nigritarsis also flying round bush (as on 4th July!) & one caught in hand & examined.


Sunday 11th July 1948.
After a wet night & drizzly forenoon, very windy & dull & chilly in afternoon.  Did no go out anywhere!
