First young queen Bombus lucorum came into N. window in my office in museum on about 15th July & it or many others during the next fortnight.  A.W.S. 14.7.48

A ♀︎ Pteronidea ferruginea? found in one of the breeding pots in motor house probably from Co. DU. or Co. WI., but data missing! A.W.S.


18th July 1948. 

A very warm afternoon, with gentle W. breeze & much very hot sun, after 24 hours rain & much dull chilly weather. Everything too wet to go out in forenoon, but Daisy, George, & I left in car at 1.45 & drove to Rye Water, Leixlip, Co. Kildare, where collected for over an hour & then drove on to 13th lock on canal 1 mile W. of Louisa Bridge & collected by canal & in Mr. Mitchell's plantation for 1 1/4 hours.

1 = slope from road nearly to Rye Water. 2.30-3.20.
2 = edge of tow path E. of lock & W. of plantation
3 = inside Mr. Mitchell's plantation. 3.45-5.0 P.M.
