12th June 1949.

A hot steamy day, with mist & drizzle at times & heavy rain following at night.

Left home in car at 10.25 for Glen of Imaal, with Keith Lamb, Marcus Graham & his friend "Ned" Wardell on board. Arrived at Coan of Little Slaney at 11.45 & walked up to ridge behind Camara Hill & so into N. Prison & eventually reached summit of Lugnaquilla, 3039 ft., about 5 P.M. Very hot & steamy all day, enervating, so going very slow.

Saw Lycopodium alpinum & clavatum on ridge at ca. 2,000, as usual, & with them Daisy

found one small plant of Antennaria dioica, I think a ♂︎.

Passed site for Sax. hypnoides at S. corner of the North Prison but for some reason did not see the plant & had not time to return to look for it.

Saw Parsley Fern & Beech Fern respectively N.E. & S.E. of the tarn in N Prison, both very green after recent rain & the 3 clumps of the former all appearing healthy, though I take it their first crop of this year's fronds had been burnt up by the earlier hot weather & drought, as freshly brown & shrivelled leaves on all plants. Left summit at about 5.15 had tea by car at Coan; left for home about 7.45 & home at 9 P.M. approx. Mist all day on hills over 2,000 ft. & absolutely no view ever obtained above this height. Collected mosses from 2,000 to 3,000 ft. in N. Prison for Miss Thomson. Also swept for ten minutes in marsh by the tarn in N. Prison at ca. 2,200 ft., while Graham swept marshy spots S. of entrance to the Prison at ca. 1900 ft. & elsewhere
