292. 3rd Aug. 1949. A nice day, cool, strong N.W. wind; after a bad few days & drop in temperature from previous week; but showers spoiled collecting in afternoon. Left home in car about 2.30 & drove to loch Deey Lock! on Royal Canal beyond Louisa Bridge, Co. KD. Left car & walked back to third field (between canal & Maynooth road) W. of Louisa Bridge - this year in 1st year hay, but full of Wild Carrot & other weeds, owing to drought. This dry on arrival, but ten minutes later a slight shower wet it & 15 later still a heavy shower made sweeping almost impossible; so came back to 2nd field W. of Louisa Bridge in Wheat, potatoes & turnips & tried to sweep, but too wet & very little out after showers. Collected in two areas:- 1 = W. side of 3rd field W. of Louisa Bridge, along hedge 2 = S. side (next canal) of 2nd field - wheat & weeds. Along canal & round fields saw quite a few ♂︎♂︎ & ☿☿ of Bombus sylvarum, also B. lapidarius ♂︎♂︎ & ☿☿, B. lucorum ☿☿, B. agrorum ☿☿, B. muscorum 1 (?♂︎) Psithyrus campestris & barbutellus 1♂︎ each Halictus calceatus ♂︎♂︎ swept. Andrena minutula fresh ♀︎ of 2nd brood. Dryinid ♂︎ = 293. 3.8.49, cont. Royal Canal, KD., cont. Taken at 1, cont. [1 from 1 labelled 25.10.1951] Sawflies: Tenthredo perkinsi frequent.
