12th Aug. 1949.

Another perfect day after a rather misty forenoon. In afternoon drove to Glenasmole & left car at middle lodge & walked up to the bog W. of Slade Brook channel above the head of the upper reservoir, where saw many plants of the Bog Orchis (Malaxis paludosa) growing with Drosera rotundifolia & Pinguicula lusitanica (in flower) in its well-known habitat.

Returned & on way back to car collected by sweeping in two places:-

1 = Swampy stream E. of the Slade Brook channel & 100 yards above the bridge over road above head of upper reservoir.

2 = On flat at head of upper reservoir (water now about 8 ft. below winter level) & around edge of "lagoon" at same place. NB. Water level had recently been up about 3-4 ft., no doubt after heavy rain on 7th & 10th Aug. & so sweeping here was very disappointing.

Myrmica scabrinodis in flight: ♂︎,☿ & ♀︎ mtd.
Dragonfly Orthetrum coerulescens very common at the bog where Malaxis grew & one Aeschna juncea seen also.
