25th August 1949.

Went by 10 AM. bus to Sutton to see excavations in progress in habitation site on raised beach on what at that period was the W. shore of Howth Island, where G.F. Mitchell had reported the discovery of an extensive kitchen midden older than the raised beach. While there tried sweeping edges of fields & field drains, but everything very wet owing to a thick sea fog & collecting difficult. After lunch conditions better & swept long grass, &c., above old quarry S. of the Howth road.

Fields, drains, quarry, &c. 1/2 mile SE. of Sutton station, Co. DU.
