but both ♂︎♂︎ & ♀︎♀︎, also ☿☿, as that caught in flight was a ☿! present. Found them settled in clusters on certain stones on summit of cairn & in certain crevices, the sexes mixed; 7 on one small stone & at least a dozen in one crevice, but showing no sign of mating. This may perhaps take place in the crevices of the cairn, where the ♀︎♀︎ no doubt spend the winter. After leaving summit & seeing the ladies set out for Coan, Hudson & I went down to top of the cliffs of South Prison to try to locate the plant of Parsley Fern (also discovered by J.A.J. Palmer) on the most southerly of the topmost crags of the great cliff.

I think I located the spot correctly, but if so the Parsley Fern is no longer there. Left here about 6 PM, & back at car about 7 P.M. whee had tea & midges. Left for home about 7.20 & home at 8.45, the old car going wonderfully on both journeys.

Saw several Peacock Butterflies during the day & one unrecognised butterfly on the summit plateau; but very few (almost none!) Bumble Bees seen & the only ones recognised were worn ♂︎ of B. lucorum.
