Ephedrus areolatus sp. n.;  ♀︎, small, ca. 2mm. in length, tergite 1 with prominent spiracles, then narrowed to apex [[image]];  propodeum completely areolated, with +/- smooth panels;  antennae slender, much shorter than body, with segment 3 pale, 1 1/2 longer than 4, &c.

24th May 1950.

After a dull morning, heavy rain at 10.30 AM. & then wet cold mist for rest of day.  Nevertheless walked out to "Maiden Castle", inspected the old fortification (Neolithic, &c.);  had lunch & walked home via Herringtown Park.  Except a few plants nothing of interest seen.  Helix nemoralis & H. aspersa the only snails seen on the hill of Maiden Castle, others on slopes to S.

25th May 1950.

Cold, with Easterly wind, strong, & rain all day - till 8 P.M.  Got fire lit in sitting room & spent afternoon at Dr. C.D. Day's looking at his sawflies.  Short walk in evening.


26th May 1950.

Left Dorchester by 9.28 train, AM., for Brockenhurst to meet Philip Harwood & his wife & spent day arould [[around]] Balmer Lawn in New Forest, S. Hants collecting with him.  Returned by 5.24 P.M. train to Dorchester.
