28th May 1950. Sunday.

A very fine day, nearly all morning, with strong W. wind. Spent forenoon with Dr. Day. In afternoon he called for me at 1:30 & drove us to Boswell's Wood in the Frome valley 4 miles east of Dorchester bridge & 1 mile south of Ilsington Wood. On way we stopped at a pond in the chalk (with no visible outlet) & collected on its very nice shore for 1/4 hour (= 1); then on to the wood (= 2) & later collected a few insects in a marsh & by a stream south of the wood (= 3).

(1) 28.5.1950.
Taken by Bhomston [[Barmston]] Pond, about 3 miles E. of Dorchester bridge (over Frome). 2 P.M.

The centre of the pond is occupied by Salix scrub, then a ring of Typha (? T. angustifolium), then mud with rushes & sedges, &c., & quite firm: an ideal place to collect! = 28.5.50(1).
