239./ 10th May 1951, cont. In afternoon drove to Glenasmole & went up to the willow glade on heights opposite middle lodge, but willow not in leaf & sweeping produced only one ♂︎ Earinus. Bombus lucorum ♀︎♀︎ numerous at the last of the Salix cinerea catkins. Also tried sweeping here & there below upper dam but no hymenoptera taken here. Earinus ochripes? ♂︎, ant. 33 Beetle = Hover Fly = Hemiteles sp. ♂︎, ant. 23. Orange Tip Butterfly (1♂︎, 2♀︎♀︎) & Speckled Wood (1) seen by upper reservoir. Daisy saw 3 Swifts while we were driving near Firhouse at 3 P.M. 11th May 1951. A most perfect day! Hot sun all day, with cool E. breeze. In afternoon drove to Sarsfield demesne, Lucan, Co. Dublin & swept for about an hour around place where avenue from gate meets the path by the river & for 100 yards below this. Aculeate hymenoptera very common - mostly ♂︎ Nomada or Andrena albicans. Parasitica scarce but about 50 swept. Left for home about 5 P.M. & home 5.40. The following in sucker:- Phaeogenes fulvitarsis ♀︎, ant. 24. Aethecerus? sp. ♀︎, ant. 24. Hemiteles or Phygadeuon 5♂︎♂︎ 1♀︎: 1♂︎, & 1♀︎ only mtd. = H. sp. ♂︎, ant. 22, ♀︎, ant. 19.♀︎ Pimpla maculator: small ♀︎ with contorted terebra: not mtd. 240./ 11.5.51 cont. Lucan, Co. DU., cont. Stenomacrus cf. affinis ♂︎ ant. 24, but cheeks not pole. Campoplegids 2♂︎♂︎ (same species!): not mtd. Sigalphus aciculatus? 1♂︎♀︎, ant. 24 Earinus ochropes? 2♂︎♂︎, ant. 34 & 35. Aspilota fuscescens ♂︎, ant. 18 - a nice typical pain but neither dark legs, &c. Synaldis concolor? ♂︎, ant. 21. Dacnusa longiradialis 2♂︎♂︎ } none mtd. D. confinis 1♂︎ } none mtd. D. areolaris & laevipectus several ♂︎♂︎ & ♀︎♀︎ of each } none mtd. Aphidius spp. 2 (♂︎ & ♀︎): not mtd. Proctos. 6-7: 4 mounted = Chalcids common, especially on bushes of Box, which was in flower but none mtd. 12th May 1951 (Whit Sat.) A most perfect day, a few small clouds in aft. & evening, otherwise very hot sun all day & gentle NW. breeze & so much less cold than of late. In afternoon drove to Ballinascorney Gap, via Brittas, then up the military road for half a mile, & left car at the new quarry & stone breaker. Walked up the stream to the head of the earliest overflow channel behind Sleivenabawnoge & then S. along the ridge to top of Ballymorefin Hill, all of which ground had been destroyed by fires in recent years.
