20th-21st May 1951.  

Following steady fall of glass for over 24 hours rain commenced to fall on evening of 20th & fell steadily most of the night, with several heavy showers in forenoon of 21st.  Also wind backed via N. to W. & much milder & much growth following the much needed rain & long spell of cold E. wind.  Everything now suddenly in flower or just coming.  Euphorbia hiberna


23rd May 1951. 

Warmer with SE. strong wind & rain blowing in wind all day, but in afternoon drove with J.P. Brunker to Ballinascorney Gap & Brittas River to show him the patch of Lycopodium clavatum discovered on 12th (see p.241 antea).


24th May 1951. 

A soft day after heavy rain on evening of 23rd.  Brilliant sun & very blue sky in forenoon with SW wind, which backed to S.E. about noon.  This caused a jam with thick drizzle from 2.0 till 3.0 P.M. but afternoon again fine & warm, but with very strong S. wind blowing down Glenasmole, where we arrived about 3.50 & left at 5.40.  Tried sweeping by path from Mr. Murphy's to upper dam; Salix, &c. on shore of upper lake just S. of boat shed; & in plantation on W. side

of the Slade Brook channel;  but very little out & nothing on the Willows, except one ♂︎ sawfly.

Anteon sp.  ♂︎: no doubt off birth:  by W. side of channel.
Dolerus nigratus?  ♀︎.
Empria tridens?  ♀︎, probably off Meadow Sweet.
Pontania? sp.  ♂︎, off Salix on edge of reservoir.
Pontaria? sp.  ♀︎, ? off Salix;  on W. side of channel.
Phygadeuon sp.  ♂︎.
Pimpla  ♂︎, very minute, dark legs;  ant. only 18.
Megastylus (cruentator?)  ♂︎, ant. 44;  watched in sucker rolling up & unrolling its antennae as usual.  Entirely black thorax!
Bracon communis?  2♂︎♂︎, ant. both 26, on grass, &c., on edge of reservoir.  
Euphorus pallipes group  ♂︎, ant. 24; dark hind tibiae & tarsi!  by path on E. side of channel:  ant. 24.
Dacnusa longiradialis  large ♂︎, by path above lodge & the only hymenoptera taken in this, usually prolific, place.  Not mtd.
