249./ 31st May 1951. The second very nice day, all hot sun, but strong cold E. wind. Left home about 11 AM. & drove via Blessington to Woodend on S. shore of new reservoir between Blessington & Ballyroad Bridge, Co. WI. Walked up old road & E. side of Woodend valley & had lunch overlooking Woodend Brook about 3/4 mile above where left car. On return to car about 2 P.M. swept ditches at either side of road forming the W. side of triangle at Woodend (= 1) & later before & after afternoon tea swept sheltered places between road & edge of lake respectively W. & E. of old road ending in lake at ruins of cottage (= 2 & 3). 2 PM.-2.30 1 = Roadside on road forming W. side of triangle. 2.30-3.30 PM 2 = ground between road & lake W. of old road ending in lake 4-4.30 PM 3 = ground between road & lake E. of old road ending in lake & under trees of small plantation.
