A lovely forenoon after a clear night with good show of Aurora Borealis before & after midnight, but afternoon cloudy, dark & almost drizzling, with rain, at 5.30; wind strong, chilly & S.W.; rising glass. In afternoon drove with Brunker to N. end of Hollywood Glen, Co. WI., arriving at 3.30 & leaving 5.50; home 6.50. Spent some time looking for the Bristle Tail taken here on –– but could see no more. A few insects beaten out off Hazel, &c. (= 1) on W. side of road just S. of corner at entrance to glen; a few swept here & there at N. end of glen & a great many taken with sucker running on leaves of colony of Polygonum sagalinense [[sachalinense]] beside ruined cottage beside track leading to the upper channel, above & E. of main glen (= 2).
