11th Oct 1951.

A very fine day, after a dull day with considerable misty rain on 10th & on night of 10th-11th. All sunny, but strong southerly wind in the hills. Went by 10.15 bus to Ballyboden & walked up to Rockbrook & then up road past Larch Hill along E. slope of Tibradden: after passing the highest farm & rounding the new forestry plantations on N. side of Tibradan [[Tibradden]] cut up over the moor to highest point of the Tibradan ridge, which is just over 1,500 ft, and there had lunch. After lunch went S.E across the moor to the conifer plantation (Major Guinness's) in which there was absolute shelter & where I swept for 15 minutes & took the following insects - mostly swept off Vaccinium or the newly planted Spruce & Larch which have been stuck in here & there in the old (perhaps 80-100 years) plantation of Larch, Spruce & Scots Pine.

Although a mile SE. of Tibradan I am labelling the insects taken here 1,300 ft. SE. Tibradan Co DU AWS 11.10.51.

The plantation lies above the 1,250 ft. contour & in the hollow between Tibradden & Two Rock Mountains. Many of the trees are dead or dying & stumps bored, apparently, by Rhagium & Sirin
