12th Aug. 1952.

A nice morning with promise of a fine sunny day, after heavy rain on 11th. Strong SW. wind in Dublin. So left in car at 10 AM. for The Murrough, but ran into SE. gale beyond Glen of the Downs & roads wet. Drove to Newcastle station & found everything dripping & the marsh (bone dry on 5th!) now flooded. Drizzle & sun & heavy shower at intervals all day, but stayed till 4.30 PM. & tried to sweep ditch parallel to railway & S. of station, where swept on 5th. Ichs. very plentiful, but really impossible to sweep. Nevertheless between showers took the following along the drain.

Painted Lady & Red Admiral Butterflies seen by Daisy on roadside near station & 1 of latter by me.

33 mounted & these labelled on 14/3/1961! AWS.
