When sweeping in the plantation many curious double discs of a deep brown colour & this shape [[image]] were found in the net. These appeared to consist of the upper & lower layers of a leaf - the two stuck together - & inside a small larva was found in each <––> so long, with perfect head, six legs, & like a coleopterous larva. They looked as if they were the discs cut out of a leaf by a leaf miner, but were mostly swept under Scots Pine, though a few oaks, sycamores & birch were also present. A few put into the pot in motor-house with the sawfly larvae. A.W.S. 13.8.1953 Still alive & walking about in 12th week of Oct '53!

Also a Cimbex larvae swept off birch from which a ♂︎ C. femorata bred on 22.5.1954.

18th August, 1953.

A very nice day of cloud & sun with westerly wind, after a wet day & cold fine night.

Left for home about 4:30 & home at 5:30 P.M. Showers N. & S. of Newcastle but we got none & the marsh was dry & so sweeping possible all day but wind strong in open marsh & along coast.
