9. 30th August 1953. A wild day with showers! After a very wet day! Strong SW-W. wind, but sun very hot between showers. Left home in car, Daisy & I, at 11 AM. for Glending, W. of Blessington on WI-KD boundary to gather crab apples & blackberries. After lunch swept around the now almost dry pond at head (N. end) of Glending overflow channel for half an hour - 2.0-2.30 PM. where took the following insects, in spite of almost a gale! Glending (pond), Co. KD. [13 mtd. & these labelled 30.4.1954.] Red Admiral Butterfly seen in lane at 12 noon during sunburst. [[strikethrough]] Phaeogenid ♂︎ = [[/strikethrough]] Phygadeuonid? ♂︎, ant. 23. Cryptinids 10: 1♀︎ only mtd. = Phygadeuon? ♀︎, ant. 17. Zootrephus ♂︎ Homocidus signatus ♀︎ Stenomacrus curvicaudatus ♂︎ & ♀︎, ant. 26 & 25 respectively. Porizonid ♀︎, long tail, ant. 27 = Perilitus autumnalis ♀︎, ant. 18. Opius caesus 2 & 2 others = O. cf. exilis? ♀︎, ant. 26, mandibles not quite closed? with rather feeble basal lobe? otherwise agrees I think! O. longicornis miki ♀︎, ant. 27; agrees with type from same locality! Pentapleura pumilio 6♂︎♂︎, 1♀︎. Phaenocarpa conspurcator ♀︎ Aspilota cf. minutissima? m. ♀︎, ant. 16, very robust ex. with large head & broad tergite 1. Dacnusa pubescens, areolaris, maculipes & laevipectus. Dacnusa diremta & cyclops 1 each. D. postica ♀︎, ant. 29+, bitten off! D. (G.) affinis √ ♂︎, pale stigma, ant. 23. Chaenusa conjungens 1♂︎, 1♀︎. Praon volucre & Ephidrus validus 1♀︎ each. Aphidius spp. 2♂︎♂︎ Proctos 9 Chalcids 5 Cynipids 2 Lady Bird (1 "Chessboard") = Dipteron 1 = Helophilus versicolor. 10. 1st Sept. 1953. Amblyteles armatorius ♀︎ found in garden running on ground & when captured found to have both right wings nearly torn off. Very warm & damp, hot sun, no rain. 2nd Sept. 1953. Gale from SW., with showers over the hills; cooler than 1st; considerable sun in Dublin & no rain during daylight. In afternoon drove to Cloghleague Glen, in Upper Liffey Valley, Daisy, I, J.P. Brunker & Miss Smythe (his temporary housekeeper) where arrived just after a shower & a little before the next which ended any possibility of my collecting insects. Cloghleague Glen, Co. WI. (Alt. ca. 800 ft.?) Collected by sweeping on left bank between bridge & Church & along track through beech plantation on left bank above bridge. 3.30 till 4.0 P.M. [17 mtd. & these labelled 6.5.1954.] Cratichneumon variepes ♀︎, ant. 24. Diadromus troglodyes dark ♀︎, ant. 27. Herpestomus nasutus? ♀︎, ant. 24. Stilpnus gagates? 3♂︎♂︎, 1♀︎: not mtd. Pimpla flavicoxis? ♂︎: not mtd. Megastylus sp. Small, dark ♂︎, ant. 45 = Acoelius subfasciatus ♀︎, runs very fast! Very smoky wings!! Meteorus filator ♀︎, small, ant. 21. M. cf. obfuscatus?? ♀︎, ant. 21. Certainly not vexator! Blacus trivialis 1♀︎, ant. 17. B. humilis group 2? 2 spp. 2♂︎♂︎, ant. both 19. Opius cf. stenops ♀︎.
