6th Sept. 1953.

One of the warmest & finest days of the year, but humid, though strong SE. breeze in the hills.

Left home in car, Daisy & I, & drove to Upper Liffey Valley: turned car where R. Liffey runs under the road a couple of miles W. of Sally Gap at ca. 1175 ft alt. & walked back along left bank of river to remains of the old Coronation Plantation (i.e. 1/2 mile) in which there is still quite a lot of oak trees, as well as Scots Pine & Larch & Rowan.

Collected by sweeping on the river bank & moor from car to top of plantation (= 1) & off oaks (only oaks!) in the plantation, through which runs quite a deep lateral glacial overflow channel, parallel with the present river.
