87. 30.5.54, cont. The Murrough, WI., cont. Chalcids very numerous, about 30 in sucker, of which 3 mounted. = Hemipteron 1 mtd. = Sawflies: 2: Pontania ♂︎ & Pachynematus clitellatus? ♀︎. 1st June 1954. A beautiful sunny day, like the previous days, but strong, chilly, very dry, NE. wind: not an insect day one would say - yet quite a lot out in shelter. In afternoon drove to Manor Kilbride, Co. WI., & walked up to summit of Dowry. On way back collected by sweeping (a little) & by looking for Parasitica on Ulex, Rowan (in full flower) & particularly on one small oak in full sun & shelter about 150-200 feet above the road; a few also taken on beech near the road but above it. This = 1 & labelled "Dowry". Later had a few sweeps in the triangle between the three roads - especially around the quarry at SW. angle = 2. Taken at 1. W. slope of Dowry, Co. WI. 3.30-4.30 P.M. [7 labelled 8.6.54: the remainder on 28.12.1965.] Ichneumon extensorius ♀︎, ant. 33: small example. Hemiteles & Phygadeuon 3♂︎♂︎: not mtd. Pimpla brevicornis? ♂︎, ant. 20: A minute dark-legged example, with pale stigma! Length 3.5 mm. Glypta pectipes 2♂︎♂︎; ant. 38 & 40. Stilbops vetula 2♂︎♂︎: one mtd. has 30-seg. antennae. 88. 1.6.54 (1), cont. Dowry, WI., cont. Stenomacrus ventralis ♀︎; also 2 (♂︎ & ♀︎) of two other species = St. merula, ♂︎, ant. 28; ♀︎, ant. 25. Exochus flaviventris ♂︎, ant. 32. E. pictus 2♂︎♂︎, ant. both 28. 1 mtd. on its face the other on its back. E. longicornis ♂︎, ant. 32. Gen. et sp.? ♂︎, ant. 29. Rogas circumscriptus complex ♀︎, dark form, ant. 39. Ascogaster 5♂︎♂︎ on oak! Ant. all 32! Labelled 8.6.54. Microgaster 2♀︎♀︎ at Ulex eruopaeus near top of hill. Labelled 8.6.54. Earinus ♂︎ Phaenocarpa ruficeps 1 dark ♂︎ Aphidius sp. ♀︎. Chalcids 3. Cynipid 1. Beetles 2, the small pale brown sp. very common on flowers of Rowan. Diptera 2 at oak = Andrena subopaca on oak. Andrena cineraria & lapponica at flowers of Ulex europaeus Nomada "ruficornis" ♂︎♂︎ at oak. Bombus pratorum ♀︎ seen at Vaccinium flowers just above top of wood at ca. 1,000 feet, but flew away on Daisy's approach without being clearly identified though I felt sure it was this species.
