4th June 1954. 

Similar to 3rd & previous days.  All sunny with strong E. breeze & in afternoon considerable "sea-mist" over the hills & some clouds about later in evening. 

Left home at 11 A.M. & drove via Hollywood up the King's River valley to last farm just W. of Ballingee Br.  Then crossed river & went south on to the ridge which leads to Hill 1974 on 1" Ord. Map. above "Oakwood":  then down to head of Glenreemore & back down this glen & round W. shoulder of the ridge & so back to car at about 6 P.M.  Home 7.30 P.M.  Collected some insects around Salix, Birch & Rowan by the King's River & swept here & there on the ridge up to ca. 1,800 ft. but all labelled "King's River, Co. WI."

Green sawflies very numerous at birch & willow: none taken.
Pachynematus ♀︎. 
Pontanias &c., very common at Salix but only 3 taken.
Dryinids  1♂︎, 1♀︎
Ants. Myrmica ruginodis ☿ on mica-schist at ca. 1800 feet.
Formica fusca seen on rocks to about 1,800 feet.
Amblyteles [palliatorius  2♀︎♀︎ at Calluna, ca. 1750 feet, ant. 41 & 42.
Cratichneumon nigritarius?   ♂︎, ant. 32. at about 1600 feet.
Cryptinids 7: only 1 mtd. = Hemiteles ♀︎, ant. 22, long terebra!

Pimpla brevicornis?  1 minute ♂︎, with ant. only 19-segmented.
Catoglyptus fortipes  ♂︎; not mtd.
Homocidus of dimidiatus?  3♂︎♂︎, ant. 22, 22, 23.  Seems to fit this best but ?
Stenomacrus ridibundus  2♂︎♂︎, ant. 23 & 24.
Gen. et sp.?  ♀︎, ant. 26; terebra [[image]];  same species ♂︎ taken at Dowry, WI., on (1) 1.6.54; both put in box where Catoglyptus is = 
Agrypon  2, not mtd.   
Porizonid  ♂︎. not mtd.
Campoplegids  2 (♂︎ & ♀︎): not mtd.
Helictes  ♂︎: not mtd.
Microgaster sp.?  ♂︎;  tergite 1 a little longer than wide & narrow!  Mesonotum far too smooth for normal globatus!  AWS. 5/1/1966.
Eubadizon  ♂︎.
Dacnusa maculipes  1♀︎: not mtd.
Praon sp-  1: not mtd.
Proctos.  4 } none mtd.
Chalcids  9. } none mtd.
Both imagines & larvae of callunae (Oak Eggar) seen!
Aphodius at 1700 ft.  Not mtd.
Purple Click-beetle very common!


5th to 8th June.

Mainly dull & often wet:  wet & cold all day on 6th (Whit Sunday!).  Some more Pine Sawflies from Hollywood, WI., emerged.
