"Scotch Mist" & strong WS-W wind all day; ranging from wet mist to a wetting drizzle. Got lunch & set off at 10.30 (Daisy & I). Walked up usual path by the Lawers Burn to Lochan nan Cat & had lunch amongst the great boulders between the Lochan & the Stuic; at 1.30 went on up to the cliffs on S. face of the Stuic about 100 yards from SE. angle & here saw 3 plants of Woodsia alpina (same as seen in 1952!) & then worked along the base of the cliff westwards seeing first two & later one more Woodsia past the big old Juniper: then across the scarps west of the lochan to the big cliff where had cup of tea at 3.30 & then set off home at 4 PM. round N. shore of the lochan & back by the burn.

Silene nemoralis, Arenaria sedoides, Thalictrum alpinum, Veronica saxatilis, Trollius, Lychnis diurna, & many other commoner plants in full flower & some quite over (such as Sax. oppositifolia) while others backward (such as Sax. nivalis & nearly all the sedges). Saw nothing new! Cornus suecica by the burn below the lochan in flower, but Cloudberry quite over, while Erigeron alpinum on the boulder in mid stream beside the Salix phylicifolia not nearly out & only one flower of the Erigeron seen (nearly open) on the S. cliffs of the Stuic.

Below the big cliff S.W. of the lochan Daisy disturbed a Vole!

A fine morning, cool, with wind rising & drizzly showers which wet everything between 11 AM. & onwards.

Went out for a few minutes before breakfast & swept in upper part of the lane leading to L. Tay (= 1); and at 10.30 went out again & swept W. (sheltered) side of the lane as far as the first bend (= 2) & from 2nd bend to bottom (= 3) & had lunch at 12.30 on shore of L. Tay. After lunch there was a very heavy shower with strong wind which wet even the innermost spots in the glen, but nevertheless swept here & htere from mouth of the Lawers Burn up the glen of its tributary to the main road (= 4). Left the glen at 1.45 & went back to the hotel as Grant Roger (Edinburgh Nature Conservancy) & W.D. Hincks of Manchester Museum due to arrive about 2 o'clock on their way home from the Cairngorms. Heavy rain all afternoon & no collecting possible! Hincks & Grant Rogers arrived at 3.30 P.M. & left at 4.45 so that we had over an hour's chat.

Taken at 1. Lawers (lane), Mid Perth. Before breakfast 8.0 till 8.30 AM.
