8.7.54, cont. Meall Meanach, cont

At the N. end of the ridge of Meall Meanach, 1387 feet, where there is more shelter & damper conditions we found several patches of Beech Fern, Sea Pink, & with the latter & on peaty burn at foot of rocks quite a lot of Hymenophyllum peltatum. About 1/4 mile N. of the ridge is a fine cliff facing N. & in one spot I found in a hurried search Alchemilla alpina, Thalictrum alpinum & a large patch of Saussurea alpina with many spikes in bud. From here we made our way to the old track leading down to the ford at outlet of Loch Meadie & so back to the Parkhill Hotel at Durness at 7.50 - 20 minutes late for supper. A large dragonfly seen on the moors looked like Aeschna juncea. Swept at intervals up to the first tarn but most insects taken along roadside S. of Durness, in the plantation where the oak is, or along the sea shore S. of "Cape Wrath Hotel"; a few on the moors & several off the Poplars by the burn from the lochan. The following taken during the day or seen:- [45 mtd. & these labelled on 21.9.1963 [S. of Durness SS. AWS. 8.7.54.]]
