[[preprinted]]No. 18. TREASURY DEPARTMENT[[preprinted]]

[[handwritten in pen]]
This die (half dollar 1809) was found by me in the law office of the late Jos. A. Clay, where it was used as a paper weight for more than 30 years. The face of the die was obliterated by a heavy coat of paint.

I purchased the die and herewith deposit it in the Cabinet of the Mint for Safe Keeping, and to be preserved as a relic.

A. E. Outerbridge Jr.
