Dear François Gerard:

Thank you for your lines of October 31st. I don't understand the last paragraph of your letter. Please repeat it as I cannot read the words that you have added in longhand and then maybe I won't understand what you mean.

I am afraid that I will not have any luch with our friend, the General R., for as soon as I started pressing, I cannot see her any more.

I know about the grande chasse. It was expertized and re-expertized and everyone was in accord that just one place is not of the period and the rest is, but anyhow I am afraid that this is a little useless because Arthur will have to pack all these champsleves in a few days and from the way you write your customer won't be back before them.

Armand had lunch at home two days ago. He was still suffering from teeth and arm and he finally decided to go to that woman who is taking care of me so marvelously.

The way you are writing to me about Doré, I amafraid that you did not get the answer in my letter of October 27, so I repeat:

"Here are the prices of the various items interesting Doré:

This makes a total of $3525.--, 20% of which is $705.-. Please say to Doré that we suggest to him that for a first business we make a difference of slightly more than 20%, that is, that we make him a difference of $750.--. Tell him that we hope that he is going to accept that, that we very glad to know him and that other business will follow which might be at that time more profitable to all of us. I am naturally very anxious to know whether you will be able to conclude such a deal. This is not an ultimatum, please be supple and if it is an absolute necessity we will accept his terms.

Please have the Degas and Carmontel framed. You will find their frames placed with the drawings."
