Miss de Groot telephoned to see if you received the dimensions of her drawing in Yale.  Just too bad; when she writes she doesn't receive any answer from Mr. .... at Yale.  On the other hand, she moved and couldn't unpack the hundreds of photographs she has.

Call her one morning at PLaza 5-5852; her number is not in the book but in the social register.  She has not a painting at home; everything is on loan or she has given them away.  I answered that "there is something that no one can take away from you, that you could not give away: your charm".  She almost started singing over the telephone.

RE: [[underline]] HENRY CLIFFORD VISIT [[\underline]]

Was interested in several things in the firm:

The Spanish Primitive - the trustees will never buy it
The GIOTTO - I think the Museum would be interested in it only "after we have bought indispensable things"
SEURAT drawings - a friend of his is looking for some

The Museum could buy:

A very important JUAN GRIS
MATISSE
LA FRESNAYE
A big Still Life
Late PICASSO
A very important RUBENS
CARAVAGGIO
Paintings of DUECENTO

He told me also that an Englishman Jeffreys was in town and that I should call him. I remembered this man slightly from London.

Mrs. Biddle is leaving for Europe to come back in the month of October.  She suggests our taking all that we sold her back on consignment.  I answered that in principle I had no objection, but that I had to refer to you and see what way you wanted to do that.
