by means of the River for freights &c. I don't wish you to understand that the place is offered, but I think it can be had. I have rented it for this year only, and are no further interested in it.

I have been over a large portion of the County laterly and am sure it will be necessary to make provisions for at least two thousand in the County. It has a black population of over ten thousand, and if the planters reduce their laboring force as much as they now say, at least one half will be unable to find work, but I think that many will find it to their interest to employ more hands than they now expect. A very large proportion of Negroes so thrown out of employment will be able to make a support if land &c is furnished them.

This place can be made to produce two thousand bushels of wheat, and five thousand bushels of corn, besides vegtables &c.

As to the pay, I should of course like for it to be as large as possible but if other things are arranged to suit, no objection will be made on account of wages.

If you see fit to take the above in consideration I would refer you to Rev. Jno Atkinson pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.

Very respectfully
James A Bullock

Capt. J.C. Beal

If you wish to see me on the subject, I can come out to Raleigh, any time you may designate.
