I have the honor respectfully to request that you will at your leisure peruse the accompanying documents, with the view that should you deem me capable, you would be kind enough to have me detailed for service in the Freedmans Bureau.

I have served as a commissioned officer in the Colored troops of the late Honorable East India Company for ten years until ill health compelled me to leave India and eventually retire from the Service and was for upwards of six years of that service holding various positions on the Regimental and General staff and the manner in which I conducted them will be best seen by the enclosed papers.  On the complete recovery of my health I came out to this country for the purpose of joining
