[[start page]] [[preprinted]] 50 [[/preprinted]] Feb. 16, 1903 Variables in Orion continued The variation in [[underline]] 38 [[/underline]] and [[underline]] 46 [[/underline]]is very marked. [[underline]] 45 [[/underline]] is the only star near Wolf's position which shows any variation. It is very faint, so that the reality of variation may be open to some question. The appearance is of genuine variation, however. The variation of [[strikethrough]]83c [[underline]] 43 [[/underline]] [[/strikethrough]] 18 is considerable, being especially well seen on the X plate. So also[[strikethrough]]83d [[underline]] 43a [[/underline]] [[/strikethrough]] 19 [[underline]] 50 [[/underline]] is a very faint star, but there appears to be a real variation not to exceed half a magnitude. [[strikethrough]] [[underline]] 38a [[/underline]] [[/strikethrough]] 16 is faint and the variation doubtful. [[strikethrough]] [[underline]] 46a [[/underline]] [[/strikethrough]] 17 is probably variable but appears bright only on one plate. It is difficult to observe [underline]] 82 [[/underline]] is the only star near Wolf's position which shows any sign of variation. It is extremely faint and no satisfactory observation has been made. D appears to fluctuate in brightness but observation is difficult on account of nebulous surrounding. There is a bright star near [[underline]] 38 [[/underline]] which is not in Bond's map. It appears on all the plates and has not changed its position during the past ten years. I find no variation.
