a short distance we could hear them calling to each other where we had not seen any. Finally I saw one. It was very pretty and not very wild. Its with tail was very conspicuous. It held it up like a wren. It raised its feet high when it walked and peered about in an uncertain manner. We could not find it again. Scared up one and it flew a short distance above the weeds. May 14, Tuesday.
This morning the Purple Martins were thick around my bird house. The males would go inside and call until the females came in. There are two full grown males. They drove the Sparrows away. Some Bluejays are building in Petty's tree. One came into the yard and tore up some paper and flew off with it. Saw a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Two males were courting her. They flew as fast as they could go.
