The was made of grass leaves and roots and was arched over. It was under a bunch of grass with the entrance toward the north. It was situated in a grove of elm, ash and oak saplings and trees. 
It contained four young just feathering out. They had very long legs and will probably leave the nest before they are able to fly.

July 14, Sunday

This morning after breakfast I went down in the fields. It was rather sharp but the sun came up warm and

bright. Cliff Swallows were very thick and seemed much excited. They flew around low down and occasionally a few would up untill about 300 or 400 feet up and then circle around call exitedly. At times 200 or more would light on the side of the school house in the sun and fairly blackened it. They were in continual motion coming and going constantly. As if with a common impulse they would leave the building calling loudly, circle a few times and then go back. Their notes made a great volume of sound. They seemed to consider me as an enemy
